The Blind Cannot Lead The Blind by Chukwuemeka Mba-Kalu
Luke 6:39 : “And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?”
I was watching a movie when one of the characters popped this beautiful statement. I pondered over and over. It was a wonderful quote and surely, I had to write again.
The Bible made reference to this quote twice in in the new testament.
He replied, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. Leave them; they are blind guides [of the blind]. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.” — Matthew 15:13-14
He also told them this parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.” — Luke 6:39-40
When you see or hear this statement, the main point carried into many heads will be ‘anyone who does not know something or has an idea of a particular thing should not try conveying his rubbish to others’. A father who constantly tells lies and shows no signs of hard-work will never have a genuine hardworking son unless perhaps the boy looks up to a good mother.
A bad leader cannot create a nice, obedient group of followers. No. Things like that don’t happen. The bad leader passes on his bad traits to those beneath him and when his followers act the same way, he seems to be concerned.
Let’s bring my points down to earth. Let’s bring my points down to the state of my country, Nigeria.
I am not going to start naming all those Leaders who led us astray but what has happened to Nigeria since 1960 – since we were handed our own country? OUR LEADERS. How can we prevent thieves when a group of people are stealing right above us ? The heads send their children to good universities abroad and we are supposed to jump into the Universities they left for us ? No.
Let’s be realistic, You shouldn’t expect anything good if you don’t do anything good. The fight against corruption cannot be successful if you’re fighting only the body and not the head. C’mon the head is the really vital part. The government took from the Niger-Delta and never returned. When the Niger-Delta came back for their loot, the government asks why.
They do not make sensible effort towards the infrastructural facilities and social amenities in the country and will rather seek abroad help. They fly their children out for proper education and if Nigeria had good medical facilities, maybe Yar’Adua would have been treated over here instead!
Mutallab happened and he was called a terrorist. A terrorist brings terror as the name implies. The government that doesn’t give considerable effort towards life of its subjects brings terror to many people. They should also be called terrorists shouldn’t they? along with Boko Haram.
Every now and then, the news comes with stories of terror attacks and numerous deaths of citizens. Let’s think of those people that die of hunger daily. Yes, those people also die because of the terror brought to them not by fate, but by those eating up their fate. Car crashes go on everyday and who is to be blame? The bad roads or those who are meant to fix the bad roads ?
Yes, Today I was watching the local news with my mom and this certain government official who was talking about the latest Boko Haram attack happily said something like ‘Don’t worry about what you see in Nigeria, there are many countries worse than ours’. Is that really how they think ? or was that man just talking out of i don’t know – stupidity ?
Enough said. I really like the work of Babatunde Fashola in Lagos and our President is looking very promising. With constant repetition of leaders that act this way, Nigeria will grow but there are still those ones eating from us.
The Blind can never lead the Blind!
I pray for a better Nigeria.
Stay Blessed!

Hysterical Blindness [VHS] $4.98 Uma Thurman is painful to watch in Hysterical Blindness–and that’s a compliment. Thurman completely gives herself over to her trashy character, a pathetically self-deluding good-time girl who hangs out in a tavern in Bayonne, New Jersey, circa 1987. She occupies the bar stool next to her best bud (a dead-on Juliette Lewis), willing herself to believe that an obviously indifferent pick-up is Mr. R… |
